However, the global recession and a slow economic recovery in South Africa have taken their toll on the construction industry. For Murray & Roberts, this has been compounded by challenges experienced on major projects. How will the Group recover in time for the next growth phase?

BUILDING SA

Murray & Roberts Projects has started to make good progress in its work on the power program. While progress on the Medupi project was hampered by past design and access to site issues, the project team is now focusing on a completion and handover date for the first boiler unit late this year.

CEMENTATION TO THE RESCUE

The global footprint and mining capability of the Cementation Group was put to the test in the San Jose mine rescue in which 33 Chilean miners were brought to the surface alive after being trapped 688 metres underground for 69 days.
